The Body Sublime

Maybe because I'm a scientific idiot, with my own ideas about how things work, I have always adored early anatomy drawings when doctors and artists were just beginning to see inside the body. They infused their work with dream-imagery because the body is, after all, a dream, no less so today than it was in the 18th century. Clearly they felt a need to continue to view the body as attached to a "personality" so these below images are fantastic examples of that very concept.
